What to Eat?

“If it is simply a question of basic survival, eat whatever you want.  But once survival is taken care of and there is a choice, it is important that you eat consciously, and are led not by the compulsion of the tongue but by the essential design of your body.” - Sadhguru

It is very interesting to me that we, as a human species, have largely forgotten how to eat.  Our modern society has been dominated by industry propaganda and advertising, and corporations make a lot of money off of the confusion about diet and nutrition.  The fact of the matter is, fueling our bodies is a very simple undertaking once we understand a few basic principles…

  • Our bodies are just an accumulation of what we eat

  • All that we eat, excrete, and what eventually gets buried or cremated, becomes soil/earth (we are all made of soil/earth essentially)

  • Our bodies see food as foreign matter, something to be processed and eliminated as quickly and efficiently as possible

  • The complexity of the food in our bodies determines how quickly we can process and eliminate it

  • Certain foods, particularly animals and their byproducts, have a high level of complexity, while fruits and tender vegetables have simple structures that are more easily processed and eliminated

  • The longer it takes to eliminate food from the body, the greater the burden on our digestive/excretory systems and all other connected systems of the body...Remember,  they’re all connected!

  • If we agree that stress is essentially what we experience when we notice the difference between what we expect to happen and what actually happens, then we may understand that…

    • Our bodies expect to process simple foods and eliminate them quickly

    • Our digestive/excretory systems experience stress when they are given complex foods to process

    • Stress is the underlying cause of all chronic illness

    • Consciously choosing the foods we eat can greatly reduce our stress levels

May we all be inspired to bring about health in our bodies and peace in our minds… only then will we be able to create the beautiful lives we came here to enjoy! #seimsright
